Actress Rupali Ganguly Urges Kolkata to Replace Horse Carriages with Motorised E-Carriages

Actress Rupali Ganguly, known for her roles in popular TV shows like ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’ and ‘Anupamaa’, has penned a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee advocating for the adoption of vintage-style motorised e-carriages in Kolkata. The move comes amidst concerns raised by Ganguly, a supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, regarding the welfare of horses used in carriage rides. Recent incidents have highlighted the risks posed by overworking horses in Kolkata, resulting in the deaths of nearly eight horses in recent months due to stress and accidents.

In her letter, Ganguly emphasized that the use of horse-drawn carriages not only endangers public safety but also creates traffic hazards. Citing investigations by PETA India and the CAPE Foundation, she highlighted instances of horses suffering from anemia, malnutrition, and chronic starvation. Ganguly’s plea underscores the need for humane alternatives to safeguard both animal welfare and public well-being in the bustling streets of Kolkata.

Rupali Ganguly, who recently made headlines with her entry into politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed her commitment to following the path of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in serving the nation. Her transition from acting to politics reflects a deep-seated belief in contributing to societal change, leveraging her platform and influence garnered through her illustrious career in entertainment.
