Arvind Kejriwal’s Aide Arrested for Alleged Assault on Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal
Delhi Police have arrested Bibhav Kumar, secretary to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, following allegations of assault filed by Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. The incident reportedly occurred during Maliwal’s visit to Kejriwal’s residence on Monday. In her FIR, Maliwal detailed that Kumar physically assaulted her by kicking her in the chest, stomach, and pelvic area. Kumar’s lawyer, Karan Sharma, stated that despite assurances of cooperation, they have not received any information from the police.
The arrest has sparked a political uproar, with BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticizing Kejriwal’s silence and labeling him as complicit in the incident. A video of the altercation from Kejriwal’s residence has circulated on social media, showing a confrontation between the CM’s staff and Maliwal. The BJP has called for accountability from Kejriwal regarding the actions of his aide.
The incident’s severity is underscored by Maliwal’s claims in her FIR, where she described being in shock and repeatedly screaming for help. She alleged that Kumar not only attacked her but also attempted to humiliate her by pulling her shirt up during the assault. The medical report from AIIMS corroborates her injuries, adding further weight to the allegations against Kumar.
