Babar Azam Faces Backlash for Alleged Body-Shaming Comments Towards Teammate Azam Khan

Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has come under fire from fans for allegedly making inappropriate and negative comments about his teammate Azam Khan during a practice session. Azam Khan, who is the son of former cricketer Moin Khan, faced severe criticism following his selection in the T20 World Cup squad, especially after a disappointing performance in the England series. Fans accused Babar of body-shaming Khan by calling him ‘Gainda,’ a slang term for overweight people, during a training session. The incident, captured on video, has sparked outrage on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

The controversy arises as Pakistan prepares for their T20 World Cup opener against the United States at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Pakistan, known for their strong performances in past T20 World Cups, aims to overcome the new challenges presented by playing in the USA. Despite the negative attention, Babar emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and strong team communication in a recent Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) podcast. He highlighted the need to adapt to the unfamiliar conditions and to gather insights from players with prior experience in the USA.

Babar’s remarks have put additional pressure on the team as they head into the tournament. In the podcast, he stressed the importance of effort, body language, and team dynamics in achieving success. Pakistan, the 2009 T20 World Cup champions, will look to leverage their past experiences and Babar’s leadership to navigate the challenges and aim for a strong start in their upcoming match against the USA.
