CBI Makes First Arrests in NEET-UG Paper Leak Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant strides in the investigation into the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, with the arrest of two individuals from Patna, Bihar. Identified as Manish Prakash and Ashutosh, the arrests come after allegations that they facilitated a paper leak at a boys’ hostel associated with Learn Play School in Patna. Sources indicate that on May 4, a day prior to the NEET exam, candidates were reportedly accommodated at the hostel and provided with leaked question papers and answer keys, which were later found partially burnt at the scene.

The arrests follow a detailed interrogation by CBI officials, prompted by an FIR registered on Sunday after the Ministry of Education referred the case to the central agency amidst protests from affected students. The CBI is currently investigating six cases related to the NEET paper leak, including incidents from Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. The NEET-UG examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is pivotal for admissions to medical, dental, and other related courses across government and private institutions nationwide. This year’s examination witnessed over 23 lakh candidates appearing at various centers both within India and abroad.

The developments underscore the gravity of the situation, with authorities intensifying efforts to ensure fairness and integrity in the examination process, crucial for thousands of aspiring students aiming to pursue careers in healthcare and allied fields. As investigations continue, stakeholders await further updates on the probe’s outcomes and measures to prevent such incidents in future examinations.
