Chandrababu Naidu Affirms Amaravati as Capital of Andhra Pradesh

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu has declared that Amaravati will be the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh, reaffirming his commitment a day before his oath-taking ceremony as the state’s chief minister. Naidu also pledged to complete the Polavaram Project, emphasizing a constructive political approach over vendetta. He outlined plans to develop Visakhapatnam as the economic capital and Rayalaseema as a significant growth region.

During the NDA Legislative Party meeting in Vijayawada, Naidu was unanimously elected as the alliance’s leader of the House, with his nomination proposed by Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan and supported by BJP state president D Purandeswari. This decision follows TDP’s sweeping victory in the state elections, securing 164 assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats, positioning Naidu as a key figure in national politics.

The announcement comes amidst ongoing debates about the state’s capital. In 2019, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) proposed a decentralization plan with three capitals, which faced legal challenges. Naidu’s pledge to revive Amaravati’s development aligns with the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s 2022 directive to develop Amaravati as the state capital, a decision still pending in the Supreme Court.
