Cyclone Remal Causes Devastation in Kolkata: One Fatality Reported

Cyclone Remal wreaked havoc across West Bengal, particularly in Kolkata, as it made landfall between the state and Bangladesh. The city witnessed widespread destruction, with one casualty reported. Mohammad Sajib, a 51-year-old man, tragically lost his life due to a wall collapse in the Entali area. The cyclone brought torrential rains and strong winds, causing property damage, uprooting trees, and disrupting essential services.

As Cyclone Remal weakened into a cyclonic storm, Kolkata faced the daunting task of dealing with its aftermath. Heavy rains led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, hindering movement within the city. Train services remained canceled in many areas, while flight operations at the airport resumed with expected delays and cancellations. Municipal authorities and disaster management teams worked tirelessly to clear debris and restore normalcy to the affected areas.

With a red alert issued for Murshidabad and Nadia districts, the state prepared for continued rainfall. Eight districts, including Kolkata, were warned of thundershowers and gusty winds. Despite the cyclone gradually moving northeast, the Met office cautioned that stormy winds would persist along the southern Bengal coast. As the city braced for more inclement weather, residents remained vigilant, adapting to the challenging conditions imposed by Cyclone Remal.
