Kannada Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa Arrested in Connection with Murder Case

Popular Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, 47, was arrested today at his farmhouse in Mysore and taken to Bengaluru by police for questioning in connection with the murder of Renuka Swamy, 33. Swamy, an employee at a pharmacy company, was found dead on June 9 in Bengaluru, with injuries suggesting foul play. He had allegedly posted obscene messages on social media directed at Pavithra Gowda, Darshan’s co-star and close friend, prompting further investigation.

The police were alerted to the murder after residents saw stray dogs dragging Swamy’s body out of a drain. Initial investigations led to the detention of several suspects, who then implicated Darshan. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed that Darshan was taken into custody based on these revelations. The police are probing whether Darshan was directly involved in the murder or had a role in orchestrating it. Nine other suspects have also been arrested.

Darshan, dubbed the “Challenging Star” by his fans, has a history of controversies, including previous jail time over domestic abuse allegations. His arrest has garnered significant attention due to his high-profile status in the Kannada film industry, with tight security now provided at his RR Nagar residence in Bengaluru. Swamy’s family, particularly his father Srinivasaiah, are distraught and seeking justice for their loss.
