Maharashtra’s Mahabaleshwar: Illegal Club Owned by Porsche Crash Minor’s Family Demolished
In a decisive move by the Satara district administration, the MPG Club in Mahabaleshwar, controlled by the family of the minor involved in the Porsche crash tragedy, was demolished on Saturday. The demolition was carried out following orders from Collector Jitendra Dudi, who cited unauthorized construction as the reason behind the action. Bulldozers were deployed to pull down parts of the structure, deemed illegal, with local policemen and revenue department officials overseeing the operation.
The club, built on government land leased to the Parsi Gymkhana Club and operated by a trust comprising the minor’s parents and grandparents, had been under scrutiny for various violations. Earlier, the state excise department had sealed the club’s bar, followed by the local administration sealing the entire club premises. Officials stated that the demolition was necessitated by the illegal setup of the club on government land, in violation of multiple rules and regulations.
According to Collector Dudi, investigations revealed that the premises, originally leased for residential purposes, were being utilized for commercial activities, with unauthorized constructions. Following a survey and subsequent hearings, 12 unapproved rooms were identified and ordered to be demolished. The Mahabaleshwar Municipal Corporation executed the demolition order promptly.
The impetus for the action came after Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed an inquiry into the allegations surrounding the club during his visit to Dare village in Satara district. The investigation focused on ownership, usage, building permits, and the operation of amenities like the bar and spa within the club. It was discovered that the bar was operating without the necessary permissions, prompting immediate action from the State Excise Department.
The demolition of the MPG Club marks a significant development in the aftermath of the tragic Porsche crash incident in Pune, where two software professionals lost their lives. Currently, legal proceedings are underway, with the minor’s grandfather incarcerated for alleged coercion of the car driver, while the minor’s father and mother face multiple charges including negligence and breach of trust.
