Two Doctors Arrested in Pune Porsche Crash Case for Allegedly Altering Blood Samples

Pune city police have arrested Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the forensic medicine department at Sassoon General Hospital, and Dr. Shrihari Harnol for allegedly changing the blood sample of a minor boy involved in a fatal accident. The minor, driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol, reportedly killed two engineers on May 19. The doctors face charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery, destruction of evidence, and taking bribes to screen an offender.

The police discovered the tampering during their investigation, having taken an additional blood sample for DNA testing later on the same day. Initially charged with negligence, the minor now faces charges of culpable homicide and drunk driving. Despite the Juvenile Justice Board granting him bail with conditions, public outcry led to his placement in an observation home until June 5. Two police officers have been suspended for mishandling the case.

Further arrests include the minor’s father and grandfather. The father is accused of providing the minor with the car and money, and restaurant employees have been arrested for serving alcohol to the minor. The grandfather faces charges for allegedly abducting the Porsche’s driver to coerce him into taking the blame for the accident, with both grandfather and father accused of offering rewards and threats.
