‘ ₹50 lakh contract given to kill me’: NCP MLA Chhagan Bhujbal on receiving death threat letter

A day following the receipt of a death threat letter, Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Chhagan Bhujbal revealed that the letter outlined a contract worth ₹50 lakh to have him killed. The letter, received at his office in Nashik, contained details such as car number plates, phone numbers, meeting locations, and other specifics. Bhujbal mentioned that he has been subjected to numerous threats and has forwarded this latest one to the police, as he has done in the past.

Supporters of Bhujbal have urged for heightened security measures for him in light of these threats. The Nashik police are currently investigating the matter and considering whether additional security is necessary for the NCP leader.

This development comes shortly after the Election Commission’s decision to allocate the NCP name and symbol to the faction led by Ajit Pawar, which dealt a significant blow to the faction led by party founder Sharad Pawar. In response, the Sharad Pawar faction was renamed ‘Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar’. The decision followed a series of hearings over six months, during which the commission evaluated various aspects including the party constitution, aims, objectives, and majority in both organizational and legislative wings. Despite conflicting claims from both factions, the commission determined that neither adhered fully to the party constitution and organizational norms. Ultimately, the decision was based on the test of legislative majority, which favored the faction led by Ajit Pawar.
