Amid Row Over Ramcharitmanas, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Remark
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, attacked the Samajwadi party on Saturday in response to the Ramcharitmanas controversy in the state assembly by comparing it to what would have happened if other sacred texts had been insulted.
In addition to fabricating the incident during the Global Investors Summit, which was held in Lucknow earlier this month, Yogi Adityanath accused the party of trying to “insult” the Hindu community in India and around the world.
“The moment Global Investors Summit was about to begin, the Samajwadi Party started the Ramcharitmanas row about Tulsi Das ji. Some people tried to tear Ramcharitmanas. What would have happened if the same thing would have happened with some other religion? Does it mean whoever wants to insult Hindus, can do it? You want to insult the entire (Hindu) community,” he said during his Address in the ongoing Budget Session.
On January 30, Mr. Maurya made fun of Mahant Raju Das by claiming that he could have simply cursed him rather than shelling out $215,000 to have him killed.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Maurya had asked that certain passages of the epic be changed or banned because they allegedly demean women and Dalits.
