TMC MLA Soham Chakraborty Apologizes After Assaulting Restaurant Owner
Trinamool Congress MLA and actor Soham Chakraborty sparked controversy by assaulting restaurant owner Anisul Alam in New Town near Kolkata. The altercation began over parking issues when Chakraborty’s men occupied the restaurant’s parking space, preventing other customers from parking. When Alam requested the removal of the vehicles, Chakraborty physically attacked him, as captured in CCTV footage.
Chakraborty later admitted to slapping Alam, citing abuse directed at his staff and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee as the cause of his anger. Despite his actions, Chakraborty expressed regret, stating he should have maintained his composure and apologized to the restaurant owner. Both parties filed complaints with the police, prompting an investigation by the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
Alam claimed that despite offering a portion of his restaurant for free to facilitate Chakraborty’s film shoot, the MLA’s men responded aggressively when asked to clear the parking space. The incident has drawn significant attention, highlighting the challenges of managing public figures’ conduct and the consequences of such disputes.
