Ace Kathakali artist Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair passed away at the age of 105

On Monday veteran Kathakali proponent Guru Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair passed away at his home at close by Cheliya in Koyilandi family sources said. He was 105.

He had been respected with the Padma Shree in 2017 in acknowledgment of his brilliant commitment to the fine art. His depiction of Lord Krishna and Kuchela on stage always left the crowd astonished and his last striking public execution was at 100 years old.

A few honors and acknowledgments came his way throughout the years including that of the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi and Kerala Kalamandalam.

Destined to Chadayankandy Chathukutty Nair and Kinattinkara Kunhamnakutty Amma on June 16, 1916, Kunhiraman Nair had his debut performance at Keezhpayur Kuniyil Paradevatha sanctuary in 1930. From that point forward there was no thinking back for the Kunhiraman Nair, who performed even after he finished 100 years.
