Arun Sao is new BJP chief in Chhattisgarh

Arun Sao, 53-year-old MP from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, was named the next state BJP president on Tuesday, the party announced in a letter. Vishnudeo Sai, the party’s tribal chief, was replaced by Sao.

Sao’s appointment as the head of the BJP state unit is considered as a counter to the Chhattisgarh Congress’s reputation as a son of the soil. Sao is a member of the Sahu community. Political observers think that his close relationship to the RSS also worked in his favour.

Senior party leaders have been teasing a leadership transition for some time as the Chhattisgarh BJP, which has only been in opposition twice in the state’s more than two decades of existence, has been preparing for the forthcoming state election in 2023.

Party insiders claim that Sai was asked to Delhi three days ago to negotiate his new position. Sai was a member of parliament from undivided Madhya Pradesh and later Chhattisgarh. He served as the BJP’s tribal face in Chhattisgarh. He even held the responsibilities for Steel, Mines, and Labour Employment while serving as the Minister of State.
