Assam Congress War Room Coordinator Arrested Over Fake Video of Amit Shah

Reetam Singh, the war room coordinator for Assam Congress, was arrested on Monday by Assam police for allegedly spreading a doctored video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the arrest followed a complaint filed at the Panbazar Police Station, leading to the seizure of Singh’s electronic devices. The video falsely depicted Shah stating that a BJP government would end reservations for SC, ST, and OBC communities, which contradicted his actual remarks about abolishing unconstitutional Muslim reservations.

Singh, known for his provocative social media presence, had previously urged his followers to criticize BJP leaders and promised legal protection against arrests. His recent posts included controversial statements about implementing reverse discrimination policies against Brahmins and using derogatory language against the Prime Minister and BJP supporters. Singh’s arrest marks a significant clampdown on the spread of misinformation and incendiary rhetoric on social media.

The arrest is not Singh’s first brush with controversy; he played a prominent role in the 2019 anti-CAA protests, advocating strategic tactics to challenge law enforcement actions. His history of inciting political activism and his aggressive online behavior have been a focal point in the ongoing political discourse in Assam.
