BJP Demands Kejriwal’s Resignation Amidst Continued Tenure After Arrest

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, urging his resignation after his arrest in the Delhi excise policy case. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva criticized Kejriwal for prioritizing his political interests and attachment to luxuries funded by public money, over the national interest. This follows remarks from the Delhi High Court questioning Kejriwal’s decision to continue as chief minister despite being in judicial custody since April.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari highlighted the constitutional challenges posed by Kejriwal’s refusal to step down, noting the disruption it causes to the governance of the national capital. He accused Kejriwal of neglecting essential government functions, including the welfare of Delhi’s schoolchildren, amidst ongoing legal battles and allegations of corruption.

In response, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) defended Kejriwal’s decision to remain in office, citing the absence of a conviction in his ongoing legal case. The party also pointed fingers at Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor for administrative delays in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, attributing it to political interference which has hampered essential services like the distribution of school books.
