Centre’s attempt to scrap old laws receives criticism in parliament

The central government’s attempt to scrap as many as fifty eight old laws, developed during the British Era, with a single bill has invited serious criticism from the opposition in the parliament of the country.

The opposition has criticised the centre for rushing through the bill. They have alleged that they were not given adequate time to go through the bill before its introduction.

The representative of the government has denounced the opposition’s argument as baseless. The ruling’s leader has claimed that the members of the house were notified at least two days prior to the introduction of the bill. Another member has claimed that the bill was discussed in depth in the business advisory committee, in which all political parties have representatives.

As per a report, the Modi government has scrapped at least 1,458 old and archaic laws so far.

It seems that the NDA is in an attempt to refresh the legal system of the country. It is good that the government shows serious effort to scrap the old and archaic laws. But, it should make sure that the process is done in a democratic way. Rushing through bills is not good for the health of the democracy in the country.
