Chanel Cooperates with Italian Probe into Supply Chain Labour Practices
French luxury fashion house Chanel said it is fully cooperating with Italian authorities in an investigation into alleged labour exploitation involving subcontractors in the luxury goods supply chain. The company confirmed it had already moved to sever ties with the subcontractor in question after receiving an alert on May 18, directing its packaging supplier to end the relationship within two days.
Italian police on Thursday visited the headquarters of nine luxury brands, including Moncler and Brunello Cucinelli, to collect documents related to corporate governance and supply chain oversight. According to judicial documents reviewed by Reuters, none of the companies is under investigation, and prosecutors have not requested court-appointed administration for any of them.
Chanel stated that it maintains rigorous social and environmental standards throughout its supply chain, with suppliers and subcontractors undergoing regular audits, assessments, and additional verification measures. The company added that the facilities linked to the case had already been subject to extensive compliance checks before the issue emerged.
