The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has suspected its state secretary for the Indian state of Maharashtra, Narasayya Adam, as he has irritated the party’s central leadership as well as its state leadership by praising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his popular housing scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

The suspended state secretary was a close confidante of the CPI (M) national general secretary, Sitaram Yechury.

The suspension has considerably reduced the strength of the Yechury-led faction in the CPI (Marxist).

At this moment, it remains unclear who will replace Mr Adam as the state secretary in the state of Maharashtra.

Many close to the Yechury-led faction inside the party believe that the ousted Maharashtra secretary does not deserve such a serious punishment.

They are of the opinion that it has been his affection towards a project that has offered the privilege of housing to several poor people through the PMAY that has been reflected through his unusual statement he made during the launch of the project, not his attachment towards the BJP ideology or the BJP leaders.

The next CPI (M) central committee meeting is not likely to be conducted before the upcoming General Election. It is believed that till then no serious debates will be conducted about the removal of the national secretary’s best man inside the party.
