Deepfake Video Featuring Kajol Surfaces Amidst Rising Concerns Over Fabricated Content

A new digitally manipulated video involving Bollywood actor Kajol has emerged on social media, adding to the growing apprehension surrounding deepfake technology. The video, originally shared by English influencer Rosie Breen as part of a ‘Get Ready With Me’ trend on TikTok, was altered using AI tools to morph Kajol’s face onto Breen’s body. Misleadingly, the edited footage portrays Kajol seemingly changing outfits, creating a false impression that the renowned actor was involved. Fact-checking platforms like BoomLive have debunked the video, clarifying its true origin and emphasizing the risks associated with AI-driven manipulations.

This deepfake incident follows a string of similar occurrences involving prominent actresses like Katrina Kaif and Rashmika Mandanna. In Kaif’s case, an altered image from her upcoming film ‘Tiger 3’ circulated online, digitally modifying her appearance from a scene where she fought a stuntwoman in a towel. Conversely, Mandanna faced a deepfake video wherein her likeness was edited onto another individual’s body, triggering widespread concerns about the dissemination of false information across social media platforms. The severity of these incidents prompted Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan to advocate for legal action, reflecting the gravity of the situation.

As a response to the fraudulent video involving Rashmika Mandanna, the Delhi Police initiated legal proceedings by filing an FIR against unknown perpetrators. Further investigation led to the interrogation of a 19-year-old individual from Bihar, suspected to be the initial uploader of the manipulated video on social media. These developments underscore the challenges authorities face in addressing the rapid proliferation of deceptive content facilitated by advanced technology.
