Don’t Carry Ads Of Online Betting Platforms: Centre To Digital Media Firms
On Monday, the Centre sent warnings to news websites, OTT services, and private satellite channels requesting that they stop running advertisements for foreign betting sites.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting instructed private satellite television channels “to prevent promotions of online offshore betting platforms and/or their surrogate news websites or any such product/service depicting these platforms in a surrogate manner.” Additionally, it cautioned private satellite television channels that breaking the advise could result in legal consequences.
The government issued a similar direction and asked publishers of news and current affairs content on digital media and OTT platforms not to direct such advertisements at the Indian market.
