Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Assam and Meghalaya today. Seventeen were killed in Assam and nineteen in Meghalaya. Three children have gone missing after a boat capsized during a rescue operation in Assam’s Hojai district. The Prime Minister spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the phone and promised central assistance.

At least 36 people have been killed so far in floods and landslides in both the states. In Assam, 19 lakh people were affected. One lakh people are currently staying in relief camps. 300 villages in 28 districts have been inundated. A boat carrying flood victims in Assam capsized and three children have gone missing. The remaining 21 people on board were rescued.

The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the victims. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke on the phone to assess the situation in the affected areas. The center offered assistance for the rescue operation. Agartala, the capital of Tripura, also received heavy rainfall. Agartala received the heaviest rainfall in 60 years. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Arunachal Pradesh as well.
