Final Phase of Lok Sabha Elections Crucial for Major Parties Amid Controversies and Campaign Clashes
With three days remaining before the polling for the 2024 Lok Sabha election concludes, the seventh and final phase is pivotal for parties such as the BJP, Congress, AAP, JDU, RJD, TMC, and SP. The heated campaign trail has seen senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar stir controversy with his remarks on the 1962 Chinese invasion, leading Congress to distance itself from his statement. Meanwhile, BJP’s Amit Malviya criticized Aiyar for alleged historical revisionism.
The final phase also intensifies the rivalry between PM Narendra Modi and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, who held multiple rallies and roadshows in West Bengal. Modi accused the TMC government of appeasement politics, while Banerjee defended her stance against a controversial court order affecting OBC certificates. This phase is critical for the BJP to make inroads in Kolkata, where it failed to win any seats in 2019, and for TMC to maintain its stronghold.
In Delhi, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the BJP plans to arrest opposition leaders, including Atishi, who faces a defamation case. The Supreme Court refused an urgent hearing for Kejriwal’s plea to extend his interim bail, underscoring the legal challenges faced by AAP leaders amid the election campaign. Additionally, Congress demanded a CBI probe into the death of a Dalit woman in Madhya Pradesh, highlighting ongoing social and political tensions.
