Heavy rains and floods washed away the bridge in Madhya Pradesh

A bridge collapsed in Madhya Pradesh after a river overflowed causing widespread damage. The water released from the Manikeda Dam flows into the river and one of the two bridges completely collapsed. The incident took place in the Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had warned that 10 shutters of the dam would be left open.

Built in the year 2009, the bridge connects the district with the city of Ratangand. In 2013, 115 pilgrims were killed in a stampede on the same bridge. It was for those who came to visit the fort temple in the city.

Heavy rains in the state have adversely affected the Gwalior-Chambal region. Rescue operations are progressing under the leadership of the Air Force in the flood-hit areas. Red Alert has been declared in five districts of the state. An orange alert has been declared in nine districts and a yellow alert in eight districts.
