In the midst of Gulf rage, India’s response to the Islamic Nations’ Group is “narrow-minded”
India has dismissed comments from a group of Muslim countries as “unwarranted” and “narrow-minded” in the wake of the huge controversy surrounding two BJP spokespersons who were sacked for making anti-Muslim remarks on news channels.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), based in the Saudi city of Jeddah, condemned the sacked BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal’s remarks on Prophet Muhmmad, saying they came in the context of “intensifying hatred and abuse towards Islam in India and systematic practises against Muslims.”
Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for India’s foreign ministry, responded by saying, “The OIC Secretariat’s unwarranted and narrow-minded comments are categorically rejected. All religions are treated with the utmost respect by the Indian government.”
Pakistan is a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is an intergovernmental organisation of mostly Muslim-majority countries. India has repeatedly chastised the OIC for commenting on domestic issues, such as those relating to Jammu and Kashmir. The OIC bills itself as “the Muslim world’s collective voice.”

Ms Sharma and Mr Jindal were fired as a result of their remarks, which the government described as “the views of fringe elements” yesterday. This only serves to highlight the organization’s divisive agenda, which is being pursued at the behest of vested interests.
