Joint Chiefs of Staff General Bipin Rawat Passed Away in a Helicopter Crash

Joint Chiefs of Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika were killed in the helicopter crash. The helicopter was carrying 14 people, including Joint Chiefs of Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika and six senior army officers. The Air Force announced an investigation into the crash. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary arrives at Sulur Air Force Base.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has left for Coonoor. Forest Minister K Ramachandran has already reached the spot. The helicopter, which was en route from Coimbatore to Military Training College in Wellington, Ooty, crashed near Katteri Nanchappa around 12.20 pm. The helicopter took off from Sulur at 11.47 am and crashed 10 km from the helipad.

The helicopter crashed just moments before landing. The accident was caused by bad weather and heavy snowfall. The Indian Air Force’s Mi-17V5 helicopter crashed at an estate in Katteri near Coonoor. The rescue operation was carried out by the locals. Gopalakrishnan, a resident of the area, said that the fire had spread in the area for about an hour at the time of the accident.

The passengers on board were Brigadier LS Leader, Lt. Colonel Harjinder Singh, Nai Kumars Gurusevak Singh, Jitendra Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar, Sai Teja and Havildar Satpal.
