“Mamannan To Be My Last Film”: Udhayanidhi Stalin, Now Tamil Nadu Minister

Udhayanidhi, the eldest son of MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, was sworn in as a cabinet minister today. The DMK’s “rising son,” Udhyanidhi, has been appointed the state’s new minister of sports.

Statewide support is strong for Udhayanidhi Stalin, an MLA from the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency. At Raj Bhavan, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office to Udhayanidhi, who is also the secretary of the DMK’s youth wing.

In 2019, the 45-year-old was named the youth wing’s secretary, taking over the position his father had held for almost 30 years.

In 2018, following the passing of his father M. Karunanidhi, Stalin was elected president of the DMK. After the DMK-led coalition won the 2021 assembly elections, he was appointed chief minister.

Udhayanidhi has also portrayed the lead characters in a number of Tamil films. In the Tamil Nadu elections the previous year, he became one of the leading candidates. During the election campaign, he insulted the home minister Amit Shah and the prime minister Narendra Modi, making national news.

According to sources, Udhayanidhi’s promotion had been planned for a while, and the leadership had been waiting for him to finish up his acting duties before appointing him as a minister.Udhayanidhi’s promotion has been referred to as “dynastic politics” by the state’s main opposition party, the AIADMK, while the DMK insists that it is the first time an MLA has been appointed to the position of minister. The DMK’s youth branch has reached new heights under the leadership of the first MLA, who has received plaudits from party leaders and supporters.

On dynastic politics charge, Udhayanidhth said, “People have elected me. My work will be my response to the critics”. He said he plans to build a sports stadium in every constituency.

Udhayanidhi said that he would not act in films anymore and Mari Selvaraj directorial ‘Maamannan’ will be his last. “I have also turned down an offer from actor-producer Kamal Haasan,” he told NDTV.
