Meta Indefinitely Delays New Commercial Terms Amid Advertiser Concerns

Meta has indefinitely postponed the implementation of its proposed new commercial terms following concerns raised by digital publishers and advertisers. The decision could help the technology giant avert potential regulatory action in the European Union and the United Kingdom, where complaints have been submitted over the proposed changes.

Publishers and advertisers argue that the revised terms could grant Meta unrestricted rights to use their content for its artificial intelligence (AI) services. Meta has rejected these claims, stating that it values its partners’ feedback and will not change its policies without thorough consultation with industry groups and industry leaders. The new terms were initially scheduled to take effect on October 30 before being postponed to November 20.

Meta has now confirmed that the delay could extend beyond the revised date to allow further consultations. The company added that its existing commercial terms would remain in force until an agreement is reached, offering publishers and advertisers additional time to address their concerns.
