Nana Patekar Clarifies Viral Video, States Slap Incident Was Part of Film Shoot

A recent viral video showing veteran actor Nana Patekar slapping a young man sparked controversy and backlash across social media platforms. However, Patekar has since come forward with a detailed explanation via an Instagram video, clarifying that the incident was a scripted sequence for an ongoing film shoot. In the video, Patekar narrates the incident, stating that it was a rehearsed scene where a young man approaches him on the streets of Kashi, inquiring about his hat and triggering a scripted response from Patekar’s character. Despite the rehearsal, a different individual, unknown to the film crew, unexpectedly appeared during the shoot, leading to the misunderstanding. Patekar expressed regret if there was any confusion and extended an apology, promising to do so in person if the young man identified himself.

Director Anil Sharma stepped in to corroborate Patekar’s explanation, affirming that the incident captured in the viral video was indeed a planned scene from their film. Sharma clarified that the scene involved a specific action where Patekar’s character had to make physical contact with a bystander, which was misconstrued when onlookers recorded and shared the clip without context. He urged the public to understand the truth behind the circulated video, emphasizing that Patekar hadn’t initiated any unwarranted physical contact and that the portrayal of the actor as negative or rude was misleading, as it was a scripted scene captured out of context.

Despite the video causing an uproar online, both Nana Patekar and director Anil Sharma have stood by their assertion that the controversial incident was part of their film’s shooting and requested the public to comprehend the sequence’s context before forming judgments based on the viral footage.
