Passenger Arrested for Smuggling Yellow Anacondas at Bengaluru Airport

Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru have apprehended a passenger for allegedly attempting to smuggle yellow anacondas in his check-in luggage. The arrest occurred on Monday when the authorities discovered 10 yellow anacondas hidden inside the passenger’s bag. The passenger had arrived from Bangkok, and the customs team intercepted the smuggling attempt as part of their routine inspection.

Following the discovery, Bengaluru Customs took to the social media platform X to announce the interception and arrest. They emphasized their commitment to halting wildlife trafficking, stating, “Passenger arrested and investigation is underway. Wildlife trafficking will not be tolerated.” This incident highlights the ongoing issues surrounding the illegal wildlife trade, which remains a significant challenge for authorities worldwide.

In India, the wildlife trade is illegal under various sections of the Customs Act of 1962, which specifically addresses wildlife trafficking. This recent case underscores the rigorous efforts of Indian customs officials to enforce these laws and protect endangered species from illegal trade practices. The investigation into this incident continues, as authorities work to determine the full extent of the smuggling operation.
