Pema Khandu Sworn in as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister for Third Consecutive Term

Pema Khandu took oath as the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the third consecutive term on Thursday at a ceremony held at the DK State Convention Centre in Itanagar. Alongside him, BJP’s Chowna Mein was sworn in as the deputy chief minister for a second term. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Arunachal Pradesh governor KT Parnaik and attended by prominent figures including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Khandu was re-elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, which led to his invitation by the governor to form the government. Initially a Congress member, Khandu became chief minister in 2016, then transitioned through the People’s Party of Arunachal to join the BJP later that year. He secured his second term as a BJP leader in May 2019 after the party won a significant majority in the assembly polls.

Joining Khandu and Mein in the new cabinet are ten other ministers: Biyuram Wahge, Nyato Dukam, Gabriel Denwang Wangsu, Wangki Lowang, Pasang Dorjee Sona, Mama Natung, Dasanglu Pul, Balo Raja, Kento Jini, and Ojing Tasing. Following the swearing-in, Khandu reiterated his commitment to the development of Arunachal Pradesh, emphasizing the inclusive growth of all regions and the vision of an Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) Arunachal Pradesh contributing to a developed India.
