PM Modi Calls for Introspection Among MPs Ahead of Budget Session 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation on the eve of the Budget Session of Parliament, criticized members of Parliament (MPs) for their disruptive behavior in past sessions. With the interim Budget 2024 announcement scheduled for February 1, PM Modi highlighted the need for introspection among MPs, especially those he called “habitual offenders”. He urged these MPs to reflect on their actions, suggesting they consult their constituents about their parliamentary conduct. This call for self-examination comes after many opposition MPs, totaling 146, faced suspensions in the previous session.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment in his address, referencing the women’s reservation bill passed in the new Parliament. He noted the prominent role of women in the current session, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing the session and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the interim Budget. PM Modi described these events as a “festival of Nari Shakti” (women’s power).

The Budget Session is particularly crucial as it precedes the general elections. The interim Budget, to be presented by Sitharaman, will outline the government’s estimated receipts and expenditures until the formation of the new government post-election. PM Modi assured that a full Budget will be presented after the formation of the new government. The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha will commence shortly after the President’s address, setting the stage for a pivotal session in Indian politics.
