PM to celebrate Maha Shivrathri by unveiling giant ‘Lord Shiva Statue’ amidst protest

As the nation is celebrating Maha Shivrathri today, the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is planning to celebrate it in a different way by unveiling a giant ‘Lord Shiva Statue’ at Coimbatore on today. This visit gains political importance as the saffron regime led by the BJP has political dreams in this Dravidian land, where a power vacuum has been generated after the unexpected demise of the powerful leader, J Jayalalithaa. As per the report, tight security has been deployed in the region, which is extremely sensitive due to the presence of the extremist forces like Maoist near and around the geographical area. There are some disputes prevailing about the land in which the statue has been erected, as per the reports. Some allege that the statue is constructed in an encroached land. Some political parties particularly left-wing parties claim that the Prime Minister should not attend the function as there are several alleged violations pointed out by the respected personalities and activists against the land. Anyway, it is learned that there are no changes in the PM’s schedule. He is likely to arrive at Sulur airport by 5.30 PM and leave to the venue in a helicopter. It is said that the religion and cast are sensitive things in the Dravidian land. It is easy to grab the confidence of a large section if a political party gives too much importance to those things. But, that will definitely disturb the life of the local people.
