Rahul Gandhi Criticizes PM Modi and Electoral Bonds Scheme at Joint Press Conference

At a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him “the champion of corruption” and slamming the now-scrapped electoral bonds scheme. Gandhi contended that the scheme, intended to bring transparency to political donations, was the “biggest extortion scheme in the world” and questioned the anonymity provided to donors.

Gandhi’s remarks followed a recent interview by PM Modi with ANI, where Modi defended the electoral bonds, suggesting they were a step towards eradicating black money from political funding. The Supreme Court, however, has recently ordered the disclosure of names of bond purchasers, which Gandhi highlighted to question the effectiveness and transparency of the scheme.

The conference also touched on broader electoral issues, with Gandhi emphasizing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a battle of ideologies. He accused the BJP and RSS of undermining the Constitution and democracy, contrasting this with the efforts of the INDIA alliance and the Congress Party to uphold democratic values amidst challenges like unemployment and inflation.
