Rahul Gandhi Responds to Controversy Over Interaction with Puppy During Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi faced criticism following a viral video of him interacting with a puppy and its owner during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Jharkhand. In the video, Gandhi is seen attempting to feed a hesitant puppy biscuits, which it refuses. He then gives the biscuits to the owner, leading to BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya accusing Gandhi of disrespecting party workers by offering them the rejected biscuits.

Gandhi addressed the controversy at a press conference, explaining that the dog was nervous and scared, which is why he handed the biscuits back to the owner, from whom the dog accepted them. He dismissed the criticism, questioning the issue with his actions, and clarified that the man with the puppy was not a Congress worker. Gandhi expressed confusion over the BJP’s obsession with dogs and criticized the BJP and RSS for “spreading hatred and violence” in the country.

During his address in Jharkhand’s Khunti and at the press conference, Gandhi reiterated his demand for a nationwide caste census and accused the BJP and RSS of fostering division. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which Gandhi is leading ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, aims to cover over 6,700 kilometres across 110 districts, highlighting various issues and uniting people against hate and violence. The yatra is scheduled to conclude in Mumbai on March 20 after 67 days.
