Rain inflicts huge damages to agriculture sector in Telangana

The unexpected rain, which has been showing over Telangana for last few weeks, has created serious damages to the agriculture sector of the state.

In the Karimnagar district of Telangana alone, the crops on over 10, 000 hectares have been damaged.

Paddy, cotton, green gram, maize and many more crops have been affected due to the unseasoned rain.

Tens of thousands of farmers have been affected. As per a rough estimate, in the aforesaid district alone, at least 15, 399 farmers have been affected.

Several farmers have expressed their concern about the heavy loss they have suffered because of the damaged crops.

A farmers’ union leader says the government should interfere in the issue. His demand is that the government should provide a reasonable compensation of at least Rs. 25, 000 per acre to each farmer.

Climate change is a big issue in the world, especially in an agrarian economy like India. As the issues related to climate change, like unseasoned rain, hangs over the country as a threat – especially to its agriculture sector on which a considerable number of the people of the country relies for their sustenance, it is high time to think of a national policy to save the country from the crisis.
