Rituparna Sengupta Questioned by ED in Alleged Ration Distribution Scam

Popular Bengali actor Rituparna Sengupta was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today about its investigation into the alleged ration distribution scam in West Bengal. Ms. Sengupta arrived at the ED office in Kolkata this afternoon, marking a significant development in the high-profile probe.

The ED is investigating allegations that rations meant for the public distribution system (PDS) were siphoned off and sold in the open market, leading to a multi-crore scam. The investigation has already seen the arrest of senior Trinamool Congress leader Jyotipriya Mallick and businessman Bakibur Rahman, both accused of involvement in the fraudulent activities.

This is not the first time Ms. Sengupta has been questioned by the ED. In 2019, she was also interrogated in connection with the Rose Valley chit-fund scam. Her questioning today adds to the growing list of prominent figures being scrutinized as the ED intensifies its probe into corruption and financial irregularities in West Bengal.
