Roshni Nadar remains richest Indian woman: Report

Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairwoman of HCL Technologies, has maintained her title as the richest woman in India, with a 54% increase in her net worth to Rs 84,330 crore in 2021.

According to the Kotak Private Banking-Hurun list released on Wednesday, Falguni Nayar, who left her position in investment banking to launch the beauty-focused company Nykaa almost ten years ago, has emerged as the wealthiest self-made woman with a net worth of Rs 57,520 crore.

According to the survey, Nayar saw a 963 percent gain in her wealth over the course of the year and is now the second richest woman overall, after Malhotra, 40, the daughter of HCL Technologies’ founder Shiv Nadar.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon saw a 21% reduction in her wealth and dropped one spot to become the third richest woman in the nation with a net worth of Rs 29,030 crore, it added.

Only Indian women who actively manage their enterprises or are self-made are included in the list of 100 women, which is defined as those who were born or raised in India. These 100 women now account for 2% of India’s nominal GDP, and their combined wealth surged by 53% in one year, from Rs 2.72 lakh crore in 2020 to Rs 4.16 lakh crore in 2021.

The threshold for entering the top 100 has grown from Rs 100 crore to Rs 300 crore, and the threshold for the top 10 is now at Rs 6,620 crore, up 10% from the previous year.

The most entries supplied by a single company were four, which came from Apollo Hospitals Enterprise. Metro Shoes and Devi Sea Foods came in second and third, with two entries apiece.

Indra Nooyi, a former employee of Pepsico with a wealth of Rs 5,040 crore, is at the top of the list, followed by Renu Sud Karnad of mortgage lender HDFC at Rs 870 crore and Shanti Ekambaram of Kotak Mahindra Bank at Rs 320 crore. The list also contains three professional managers.
