RRR drags Bollywood far behind; Global collection earned the first week

Director Anurag Kashyap has recently said that today Tollywood is a bigger film industry than Bollywood. Anurag’s mention was made at the IFFK venue. If you look at the box office performance of recent movies, you will see that this observation is correct. The Hindi version of Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa was a huge hit recently. SS Rajamouli’s RRR is now making history in the global collection.

The movie, which hit theaters on March 25, grossed Rs 710 crore in a week! The gross earned in the first week from India alone was Rs 560 crore. This is the best first week collection of an Indian film after Covid. Even if you take a look at the Hindi version of the film, you can still see the popularity of the Telugu version of the film in the North Indian market. The Hindi version of RRR grossed Rs 132.59 crore in its first week. This first week’s collection is on top of this year’s Bollywood hits like Suryavanshi, The Kashmir Files, 83 and Gangubhai Kathiyawadi.

Apart from Telugu, the film is available in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi versions. Of these, the Telugu version alone earned Rs 127 crore on the first day! The Hindi version was second in the first day collection. The Hindi version grossed Rs 23 crore. The Kannada version fetched Rs 16 crore, the Tamil version Rs 9.50 crore and the Malayalam version Rs 4 crore on the first day. In addition, the film was well-distributed in overseas markets. The film received good bookings in its first week in the US, UK, Australia, Canada and the Gulf region. The foreign collection on the first day alone is around Rs 70 crore. According to the producers, the film has been released on 10,000 screens worldwide.

The film was directed by SS Rajamouli after Bahubali 2 and received huge pre-release hype. The film stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in the lead roles and also stars Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, Samudra Kani, Alison Dudi, Ray Stevenson and Shriya Sharan. Rajamouli himself has scripted the story of his father KV Vijayendra Prasad. Produced by DVV Danayya under the banner of DVV Entertainments.
