SGPC Opposes Proposal to Make Sikh Soldiers Wear Helmets

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has vehemently resisted any attempt to equip Sikh soldiers with ballistic helmets.

The head of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), the SGPC, met with a delegation from the organisation to discuss the matter.
No meddling with the issue of Sikh identity, according to the SGPC delegation, will be accepted. They declared that Sikh soldiers cannot, under any circumstances, wear helmets.

The comments are being made in light of news that ballistic helmets for Sikh soldiers may soon be available.

The meeting at the NCM office in New Delhi was attended by the SGPC delegation on Friday. Gurcharan Singh Grewal, the general secretary of the SGPC, and Raghbir Singh Saharan Majra, a member, were also in the delegation.

It expressed its strong opposition to the government’s alleged plan to require Sikh soldiers to wear helmets before NCM chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura and stressed that there should be no debate or consideration of this matter.
