The name of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ child has been revealed, and here’s what it means
Surrogacy was used to give Priyanka Chopra and her husband, singer Nick Jonas, a baby girl. While the couple has yet to officially reveal their daughter’s name, TMZ has obtained a copy of the child’s birth certificate, which lists her name as Malti Marie Chopra Jonas.
Their child was born on January 15 in a San Diego hospital shortly after 8 p.m., according to the same report.
While it is unclear why the couple chose the name Malti (which could be related to Priyanka’s mother’s name), the Sanksrit origin of the word means’small fragrant flower’ or’moonlight.’
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” Nick and Priyanka wrote in a post on January 22, announcing the child’s birth. We respectfully request privacy during this special time so that we can devote our attention to our family. Thank you a lot.”While chatting with her friend and chat show host Lilly Singh, Priyanka had opened up about being a parent. “As a new parent right now, I keep thinking about how I will never be imposing my desires, fears, or upbringing on to my child,” the actor said, adding that she will never impose her dreams and beliefs on her daughter. Children come through you, not from you, I’ve always believed. There is no such thing as “this is my child, and I will mould everything.”
Priyanka Chopra has a slew of upcoming films, including the Russo brothers’ Amazon Prime Video series Citadel, Anthony Mackie’s action thriller Ending Things, and Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa, which stars Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
