Tokyo Olympics Men’s Archer: Atanu Das defeats Oh Jin-hyek

Indian player Atanu Das makes a big splash in the men’s archery event. South Korea’s two-time Olympic gold medalist Oh Jin-hyek lost 5-6 to Atanu. With that, Atanu entered the pre-quarters. Hyek won gold in the individual event at the 2012 London Olympics. He was also a member of the Korean team that won gold in the team event this time.

The Indian won the match 26-25, 27-27, 27-27, 22-27, 28-28, 9-10. Athanu was the 35th seed in archery. The Korean player is third. Earlier, Praveen Jadhav, another Indian, lost to Brady Ellison of the United States. In the women’s category, Deepika Kumar also advanced to the next round.

Atanu will face 46th seed Takaharu Furukawa of Japan in the pre-quarterfinals on Saturday. Deepika Kumari will face Russian Olympic Committee’s Xenia Perova in the women’s pre-quarterfinals tomorrow.

Indian boxer Satish Kumar reached the quarterfinals in the heavyweight (91 kg) category today. In women’s badminton, PV Sindhu advanced to the quarterfinals. In men’s hockey, India reached the quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over Argentina.
