Tragedy Strikes Odisha’s Jajpur District: 10-Year-Old Student Allegedly Dies After Punishment at School
In a distressing incident at Surya Narayan Nodal Upper Primary School in Orali, Odisha, a ten-year-old student, Rudra Narayan Sethy, tragically passed away after an alleged punishment administered by a teacher. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday during school hours, has sparked outrage and concern among locals and education authorities.
Reports suggest that Rudra was engaged in play with four other students within the school premises at around 3 pm when a teacher spotted them. Allegedly, the teacher, upon seeing the children playing during class hours, ordered them to do sit-ups as a form of reprimand for their actions.
However, tragedy struck as Rudra collapsed while performing the punishment. His parents, residents of nearby Orali village in Rasulpur block, were immediately notified. They swiftly rushed Rudra to the nearby community center and subsequently to the community health center. Despite the prompt medical attention, Rudra’s condition deteriorated, and he was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday night. Heartbreakingly, doctors at the hospital pronounced him brought dead.
When approached for comment, Rasulpur block education officer (BEO) Nilambar Mishra stated that no formal complaint had been lodged as of yet. Mishra assured that upon receiving a formal complaint, a thorough investigation would be conducted, and appropriate action would be taken against anyone found responsible.
In response to the distressing incident, Rasulpur assistant block education officer Pravanjan Pati promptly visited the school premises to initiate an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Rudra’s demise.
The tragic loss of a young life under such circumstances has cast a shadow of grief and concern over the community, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the events leading to Rudra Narayan Sethy’s untimely demise.
