Veteran Film Director Tarun Majumdar Passes Away

Known for creating films with gripping stories that highlight the lives of middle-class families, acclaimed director Tarun Majumdar passed away on Monday in a hospital in Kolkata after a protracted illness, according to hospital officials.
He was 92. On June 14, Majumdar was given a medical admission at the government-run SSKM Hospital for kidney issues.

“Around 11:17 AM today, Tarun Majumdar passed away. He has been in critical condition for some time, and this morning, his condition got worse. He was no longer responding to any form of treatment, and his heart rate and pulse had both decreased “a hospital representative said.

Majumdar was moved to the ICU on Sunday and put on a ventilator after developing a “secondary infection in his lungs,” according to the official.

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, expressed her profound sorrow over Majumdar’s passing and called it a “huge loss to the entertainment world.” She sent her sympathies to the Majumdar family and his countless supporters.

Notable among his works are ‘Kancher Swarga’ (1962), ‘Palatak’ (1963), ‘Kuheli’ (1971), Shriman Prithviraj (1972), ‘Balika Badhu’ (1976), ‘Thagini’ (1974), ‘Ganadevata’ (1978), Dadar Kirti (1980), ‘Bhalobasa Bhalobasa’ (1986).

Majumdar, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 1990, has won five Filmfares.
