Violent Clash Erupts at Grand Hotel in Abids Over Food Quality: Waiters Booked
A chaotic scene unfolded at the prestigious Grand Hotel in Abids on Sunday night, as a clash between a group of customers and restaurant staff turned violent, reportedly stemming from dissatisfaction over the food quality. A video clip, purportedly filmed by one of the customers, has since gone viral, revealing a disturbing altercation where waiters resorted to using sticks, bathroom wipers, and chairs to assault the group. Women’s screams pierced the air as the confrontation escalated.
The Abids police swiftly responded to the incident, booking the accused waiters and others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and 509 (act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), as reported by The Hindu. The recorded footage displays a distressing scenario where despite pleas from a woman within the family to cease the assault, the attackers persisted, even resorting to verbal abuse.
According to media reports, the complainant’s family from Dhoolpet had visited the restaurant to celebrate the new year but were dissatisfied with the quality of biryani served. Their request for a replacement dish only resulted in further disappointment when the substitute fare failed to meet their expectations. Assistant Commissioner of Police, A Chandrasekhar, informed TOI that an argument erupted when the server questioned the dissatisfaction, leading to one of the customers slapping the waiter. This action triggered a chain of events as the staff became aggressive towards the family. The staff members involved in the incident were subsequently released on bail pending further investigation into the distressing clash at the Grand Hotel.
