Deve Gowda Breaks Silence on Grandson’s Sexual Abuse Charges Amid Political Storm
JD patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who turned 92 on Saturday, addressed the media regarding the sexual abuse allegations against his grandson, MP Prajwal Revanna, and son, JD MLA H D Revanna. Gowda stated he has no objection to action being taken against Prajwal if found guilty, though he refrained from commenting on the charges against his son, describing them as “created” and noting the matter is sub judice. Prajwal is accused of multiple instances of sexually abusing women and reportedly left for Germany on April 27, prompting an Interpol Blue Corner Notice to bring him back.
Gowda emphasized that justice should prevail for the affected women and concurred with his son, Kumaraswamy, that anyone found guilty should be punished. He noted that his son, Revanna, had secured interim anticipatory bail in a sexual harassment case involving both him and Prajwal. The scandal has caused a significant political uproar, with the ruling Congress and BJP-JD alliance engaged in a blame game. Addressing rumors of a conspiracy to defame his family, Gowda acknowledged the involvement of several people but chose not to name anyone.
In response to allegations by BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar circulated explicit videos of Prajwal, Deve Gowda stated that Kumaraswamy would handle the issue and provide further responses. He also appealed to the media to end their campaigns near his house and requested well-wishers and party workers to send birthday wishes from afar, refraining from public celebrations. Gowda concluded by expressing his intent to address the media after the Lok Sabha poll results on June 4.
