Priyanka Chaturvedi Calls Out Insult to Rajya Sabha Chair, Plans Breach of Privilege Motion
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has called out a user on X (formerly Twitter) for making derogatory comments about her officiating the Chair of the Rajya Sabha. The user had criticized her role on Thursday, accusing her of disrespecting the Marathi language and a fellow MP. Chaturvedi responded by highlighting the parliamentary rules and defending her actions, stating that the user’s comments were sexist and an affront to the Vice President of India, who is the Chairman of the house.
Chaturvedi, who was officiating as part of the panel of vice chairpersons in the Vice President’s absence, refuted the allegations and clarified that the Marathi-speaking MPs, Dr. Medha Kulkarni, and Rajni Patil, were not interrupted by her but by their ally. She further requested the Chairman to allow a breach of privilege motion against the user for their inappropriate remarks.
Having joined Shiv Sena in April 2019 after leaving Congress, Chaturvedi is now the party’s deputy leader and spokesperson. She emphasized the need for respect towards parliamentary proceedings and urged for a better understanding of the rules governing the Rajya Sabha.
