Congress Criticizes Modi Government for Moving Tata-Airbus Facility from Maharashtra to Gujarat

The Congress party accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government of sidelining the state’s interests by shifting the Tata-Airbus C-295 aircraft manufacturing facility from Nagpur to Vadodara, Gujarat. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posed six questions to the government on the alleged “wholesale surrender” of Maharashtra’s projects, urging transparency and accountability. The facility, inaugurated in Vadodara by PM Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez, marks India’s first private-sector final assembly line for military aircraft.

Ramesh argued that the decision deprived Maharashtra of a major economic opportunity, suggesting it was politically motivated ahead of Gujarat’s assembly elections. He cited past instances where Maharashtra had lost out on key projects, such as the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and the Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor factory, both shifted to Gujarat. Ramesh also highlighted that the Textile Commissionerate Office was moved from Mumbai to Delhi despite Mumbai’s significance in the textile sector.

Emphasizing the Congress’s commitment to equitable development, Ramesh asserted that unlike the current administration, his party does not engage in favoritism, advocating instead for a balanced distribution of new projects and infrastructure across all states to benefit the entire country.
