AAP’s Sanjay Singh Granted Permission to Sign Documents for Rajya Sabha Re-nomination from Jail

A Delhi court has granted permission to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh, currently incarcerated, to sign necessary documents for his Rajya Sabha re-nomination. Singh’s term in the Rajya Sabha is set to expire on January 27, prompting the need for signatures on vital paperwork. The court’s decision allows Singh, currently in Tihar Jail, to meet with his counsel and affix his signature on the required documents by January 6.

The application, filed by Singh, highlighted the urgency due to the impending expiration of his term and the notice issued by the Returning Officer for the election process, necessitating nominations by January 9. The court directed the Tihar Jail superintendent to facilitate Singh’s signature on the documents presented by his counsel on January 6, allowing for a brief meeting between Singh and his counsel to discuss the nomination process.

Sanjay Singh, who has been under arrest by the Enforcement Directorate since October 4, faced allegations regarding his involvement in formulating an excise policy benefiting specific liquor entities for financial gain. Denying the allegations, the AAP leader has vehemently refuted any wrongdoing in connection to the scrapped excise policy.
