Adani Green Energy Marks a Milestone with Over 10,000 MW of Renewable Energy Capacity

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) announced on Wednesday the commissioning of a significant 2,000 MW solar capacity at the vast Khavda solar park in Gujarat, propelling the company to become the first in India to surpass the 10,000 MW mark in renewable energy capacity. This major achievement brings AGEL’s operational portfolio to a total of 10,934 MW, making it the largest in the country. The newly commissioned capacity is part of AGEL’s ambitious goal to reach 45 GW of renewable energy by 2030, as the company added 2,848 MW of renewable capacity in the fiscal year 2024 alone, spanning across solar, wind, and wind-solar hybrid projects.

The significant expansion in AGEL’s renewable energy capacity is expected to power more than 5.8 million homes and offset approximately 21 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, expressed pride in reaching this landmark, highlighting the company’s rapid growth from a nascent idea in clean energy to a leader in the renewable sector with over 10,000 MW in installed capacity. He emphasized the company’s commitment to contributing to India’s energy transition through the development of the world’s largest renewable energy project in Khavda, boasting a planned capacity of 30,000 MW.

In addition to its capacity milestones, AGEL also announced that its operating portfolio has achieved significant environmental certifications, being declared ‘single-use plastic-free’, ‘zero waste-to-landfill’, and ‘water positive for plants with more than 200 MW capacity’. The Khavda solar park, covering an area five times the size of Paris, symbolizes AGEL’s dedication to sustainability and its strategic use of resources and partnerships to push forward its renewable energy projects at an unprecedented scale and pace.
